2019 Audi S8 – The next-generation Audi S8 was spotted for the first time at the end of September while stretching near the Nürburgring. Fast from today to today, another heavily camouflaged prototype has been captured by the spy camera in a totally different environment during cold tests in northern Europe.
The disguised front bumper fails to hide the large air vents, while rugged alloy wheels with low-profile tires supported by wider brakes are also signs of the warmer S8 model. By far, the most revealing clue is noticeable in the back, where the prototype was on all fours. As a prototype early in the test phase, it is not surprising that the car has replaced a temporary exhaust system in the coming months with standard exhaust on more advanced prototypes.
As for the design, we still can not see most because of the swirly camouflage. The regular A8 2018 style will have much in common with the magnificent Prologue introduced almost two years ago. Audi through the voice of its head designer Marc Lichte has already announced plans for a new style direction and the first model to pave the way is going to be the crown jewel of the all-new A8 lineup.
The formula of the new 2019 Audi S8 will remain about the same as the current model, with a 4.0-liter, four-wheel-drive, double-turbocharged V8. Power should be closer to or equal to the 605 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque boosted (516 lb-ft normally) of the current S8 Plus. An 8-speed automatic should also remain standard. As we hear in the spy video above, it sounds good with a guttural V-8 note despite being turbocharged.
The A8 standard bows later this year, as a 2019 model. It is likely that the revelation of the S8 will be delayed until next year.
