The new BMW Z4 will be BMW’s first sports collaboration with Toyota, which will also produce the next iteration of the Scion FR-S. While the Toyota sports car will come with a hardtop, the 2019 BMW Z4 roadster will sport a soft top. The new sportscar architecture is based on the highly scalable matrix platform that revolves around a single fixed point, the front-end firewall. From Japan comes the support of electronics and optional hybrid drive for the Z4, while BMW will bring its expertise in lightweight materials and engines.
The redesigned Z4 will give up the retractable hard-top of the current model in favor of a more traditional soft-top roof. This should reduce the weight and allow the car to be more agile in cornering. The new BMW Z4 will be a pure sports car rather than the more luxurious position of the outgoing model. The Supra would be at the top of the Toyota brand range and could feature cutting-edge technology in addition to the bold style.
The power supply of the new 2019 BMW Z4 will be a choice of the latest turbocharged gasoline engines from BMW. The Z4 sDrive30i will receive a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing about 248 horsepower, while more powerful versions will likely get a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder, shared with the M240i, producing about 335 horsepower. Both engines will come with the standard four-wheel drive rear and an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.
Look for the beginnings of the new Z4 later this year. It should arrive as a 2019 model and with a starting price slightly higher than the $ 50k of the current Z4.
